Before Marian Rivera, Darna was portrayed by Angel Locsin in 2005, who was still with GMA network, the franchise holder of Darna at that time. When Angel Locsin moved to ABS-CBN network, the role was given to Marian Rivera.
Last year (2012), ABS-CBN has acquired the rights to do a TV and movie remake of the works of Mars Ravelo including Darna, Captain Barbell and Dyesebel. Lucky enough for Angel Locsin who is now with ABS-CBN network, she gets to play the role for the second time.
Angel's Darna portrayal made TV history when it garnered a 47.1% rating making it one of the highest rated pilot episode ever in Philippine television. Another record was set when it garnered 52.1% overnight ratings, the highest rating yet for the show - the episode that Narda transforms into Darna for the first time.
Angel Locsin may have set records portraying Darna, but the Ravelo's, the creator of Darna, said in an interview that Marian Rivera is the sexiest and most beautiful actress to play Darna.
